Foothills North Region

ABOUT

The Foothills North Region encompasses Ashe, Watauga, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Wilkes, Alexander, and Catawba counties. Our membership includes photographers of all levels of experience from beginners to professionals.

Our surroundings in Western North Carolina offer exceptional opportunities for nature photography, with spectacular landscapes featuring the misty peaks of the Appalachian Range to forest, lake and waterfall scenes throughout Pisgah National Forest. Some of our members' favorite locations include Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls, Hawksbill Mountain, W. Kerr Scott Reservoir, and numerous spots along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Our region is also home to abundant wildlife, including black bears and white-tailed deer, along with a rich variety of bird species including bald eagles, wild turkey, owls, hawks and smaller birds ranging from the Northern Cardinal  to Tufted Titmice.

We also look forward to vibrant wildflower and tree blooms in spring and summer, spectacular fall foliage blanketing our local mountains each autumn, and pristine snow covered scenery in winter.  We are truly fortunate as photographers in the Foothills North Region to enjoy year-round inspiration!
